Training with Hitchin Netball Club

Coaching sessions for the Hitchin Netball Club are held on Tuesday evenings during term time at The Priory School in Hitchin.
Minis Training
Our Minis training is designed for our youngest members, from Year 3 through to Year 5. These sessions introduce the basics of netball in a fun and engaging way.
Juniors Training
Juniors training caters to players in Year 6 to Year 9. Typically, players train within their own year group, although exceptionally talented players may be moved up to train with an older group.
Youth Squad Training
Our Youth squad training is for players from Year 10 to Year 13, focusing on developing advanced skills and team play.
At Hitchin Netball Club, our coaching sessions are designed to develop players' skills, understanding of the game, and overall fitness in a supportive and engaging environment. Each session includes targeted drills focusing on key netball techniques, such as passing, shooting, footwork, catching, dodging, pivoting, and movement. Performing these drills with intensity naturally enhances aerobic fitness.

A netball match typically lasts between 40 and 60 minutes, depending on the league, and is played in four quarters with short rest breaks in between. To maintain performance throughout the game, players need strong aerobic fitness. Our training incorporates interval training, speed work, circuit exercises, and game-specific drills to improve cardiovascular endurance and on-court skills.

We recognise that competitive play is essential for skill development. That’s why we offer all players, across all year groups, opportunities to participate in tournaments and leagues outside of training. Additionally, we arrange friendly matches during training sessions, allowing players who may not be able to commit to league games the chance to experience competitive play.

Hitchin Netball Club is an inclusive club where all abilities are welcome. At the same time, we support talented players in reaching higher levels of competition. Some of our players also train with Hertfordshire County Netball, the Mavericks Superleague Futures Programme, and local development squads.

With over 200 young players in our club, we are incredibly proud of our training programme. Our dedicated coaches and volunteers work hard to deliver engaging and high-quality sessions. Most importantly, we believe that netball should be fun for everyone!
